Suspected armed robbers raided the communities of Odo Ere and Egbe in the local government of Yagba West, Kogi state on Tuesday before attacking two second-generation banks and killing three people and injured several others.

According to eyewitnesses, those killed included two security guards and a lady who is believed to be in her 20s.

The armed thieves, according to reports, came in a Toyota Highlander SUV and three motorcycles.

They reportedly entered through Egbe, where they launched simultaneous attacks against the divisional police headquarters and a branch of Access Bank Plc where they killed the security guard on duty.

Heavily armed robbers also descended on a First Bank branch in Egbe which had been bankrupt for more than two years due to relentless theft attacks.

Eyewitnesses said the thieves then proceeded to Odo Ere, the seat of local government where they rained bullets on the city’s only police station and a branch of the UBA bank where they also killed the security man on duty.

After a successful operation, the thieves started shooting indiscriminately as they left town and shot a lady.

State Police Commissioner CP Idrisu Dauda Dabban confirmed the theft attacks but said he was still awaiting details from the area commander.
